I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1982. My father was diagnosed with colon cancer when I was 16. He died two years later, after two surgeries and several rounds of chemotherapy, and I stayed with him until the end. A few years after that, I became my mother's companion through a long series of cardiac interventions, and then, in 2020, through stage 4 ovarian cancer. She chose quality of life over treatment, and I stayed by her side every day until the end, in a palliative care center, in the middle of the pandemic.
Those are the two closest encounters I've had with death, but I've spent most of my life as the person friends and family turn to when things get hard, the one who shows up, stays present, and helps people find their footing again.
I didn't start out doing this work professionally. My career moved between large companies and my own small businesses, in sportswear design and later running my own children's clothing brand. Always working closely with people and learning early on how much human interactions matter as much as the work itself. Today I co-run a small, design-led custom wallpaper business with my best friend, which lets me work from anywhere. A year after my mother died, I met my partner, today the reason my home is in Cape Town. Somewhere along the way I decided to formalize what I'd been doing all along: I trained as an end-of-life doula and started By Your Side to offer people the kind of presence, planning, and company I wish had been easier to find for my own family.
I work in English and Spanish, with individuals, families, and anyone facing a serious diagnosis, a decline, or a loss. What I offer is practical support, honest conversations, and someone steady beside you while it's happening.
